Calcium chloride is a salt composed of calcium and chlorine elements. It exists as solid lumps, flakes, granules, spheres or powder. It dissolves readily in water, yielding a slightly alkaline aqueous solution and releasing substantial heat during dissolution. It features strong hygroscopicity and deliquesces easily when exposed to air.

By application, calcium chloride falls into industrial grade calcium chloride and food grade calcium chloride. By property, it can be categorized as anhydrous calcium chloride, dihydrate calcium chloride and liquid calcium chloride.
